The World Pickleball Tour is coming back to Kansas City in 2023!

From May 19-21, 2023, we'll be hosting another tournament at the beautiful, 12-court, Elite Tennis + Wellness in Overland Park, KS!

ABOUT THE WPT

The World Pickleball Tour is a strictly amateur tournament series that hosted 25 events in 2022 and is hosting nearly 40 in 2023.

All of our tournament stops are considered "challenger" events, as all Gold Medalists from our circuit are invited to the 2024 WPT Amateur Invitational Championships, which will pit the best amateur players in the country against each other as they compete for their share of the $175,000 CASH PURSE at the event!

We exist to grow the game at the grassroots level, and aim to provide high-quality, valuable, and memorable competitive experiences for you all, the amateur players. We look forward to seeing you at this event!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

Skill/Age Brackets: 3.0-5.0; 19+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 60+ (70+ when brackets are formed, if applicable). 18 and under can register for 19+.

Registration Perks: All players receive a WPT player swag bag: a reusable, branded tote that contains elevated giveaway items, hydration and nutrition essentials, court fashion accessories, other player necessities, and a World Tour DRIFIT t-shirt!

Format: This will be an unsanctioned, Round Robin-style event with 7 guaranteed games (to 11 or 15, depending on number of teams in bracket).

Multiple Events/Same Day: Once registration closes and the schedule is created, players will have the opportunity to add another skill/age event to the same day of competition as long as the start times don't conflict. Unsure of what level to play or wishing to test out your skills at the next level up, now you can play two events in a single day!

Winners: All gold medalists earn an invitation to the 2024 championship event with a $175k cash purse. Silver and bronze medalists will also earn a spot on the waitlist for the 2024 championship event as well as any participate of a WPT event (in that order).

Giveaways: The WPT will be providing sponsored giveaways that are raffled off at the event - from luxury bags to paddles and more!

WAITLIST: When registering for DOUBLES, the second signed up teammate MUST register within 2 days of the first player. If a teammate does not register within the specified time limit then the first player will be placed on the waiting list automatically. Emails will go out to both players when this happens. Once the second teammate registers they will be moved off the waiting list IF there is still room in the event.

BRACKET MAX:

If a bracket reaches the initial 8-player/team limit, please add yourself to the waitlist. Brackets will potentially be expanded if there is space available in the event day. Brackets that do not max out at 8 could be combined to provide the best possible playing experience for all participants. The manner in which they would be combined will be determined at the close of registration. If brackets are combined, medals will be awarded based upon the skill/age category players registered for.

TOURNAMENT COST: include a registration fee ($60-90; depending on the period) and a per event fee ($30).

SCHEDULE: Will be posted on the tournament website on Monday, May 15, 2023 by 11:59p PST. WPT events run in waves (8a, 12p, and 4p). Brackets are assigned to times based upon number of registrants, therefore, times can not be established until registration closes. Players/teams will be permitted to sign-up for a 2nd bracket on the same day (the weekend after registration closes), if the times do not conflict.

EVENTS:

Friday: Mens Singles / Womens Doubles

Saturday: Mixed Doubles

Sunday: Mens Doubles / Womens Singles

LATE REGISTRATION: adding events (other than the 2nd event on the same day) after registration closes will incur a $10 admin fee. If space is available, new player registration will be accepted up until noon the day before the competition day. Late registrants pay an additional $20 admin fee.

PARTNER REPLACEMENTS: until registration closes, players can replace their partners by editing their registrations. After, a communication must be sent to the registration email address. Original partner will receive a WPT tournament credit while the new registrant must pay the applicable tournament fees.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY

Refunds in the form of tournament fee credits, less a $25 processing fee, will be issued for all cancellations regardless of reason up until noon the day before the event competition. These funds can be put towards the tournament fees of future WPT events (www.wptevents.com).

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

This is an outdoor tournament. If weather is a factor, we will do all we can to play matches. There are no refunds or make up days, if the tournament is impacted by weather. No indoor backup plan for this tournament.

STATUS OF PLAY - FRIDAY, MAY 19 (Mens Singles/Womens Doubles)

4:00PM -- PLAY CANCELLED

WAVE 1 (8 am bracket start) - rain continues to come down lightly at the venue. As a result, we will not be able to restart play at 5 pm as had hoped. Players will be emailed a potential option to resume on Sunday.

11:17AM -- RAIN DELAY

WAVE 1 (8 am bracket start) - will resume play at 5 pm today if rain stops and courts can be dried in time. If it appears this is not attainable, wave will be officially cancelled a 4 pm. If 5 pm looks doable, players will be asked to be on-site and ready to play at that time.

WAVE 2 (12 pm bracket start) - will be be rescheduled for 4 pm, Saturday, May 20. Check-in at 3 pm; orientation will take place at 3:30 pm. If you and/or your team are unable to play, please email reg-kan@wptevents.com by 2 pm today.

8:10AM -- RAIN DELAY

WAVE 1 (8 am bracket start) - will resume play once rain ends and courts are dry. Further updates will be provided here. Players will receive text message when update is posted.

WAVE 2 (12 pm bracket start) - will be delayed until further notice. Players will also receive text message when there is an update available.
