Hot on the heels of the successful SA Pickleball Championships (fast getting a reputation as the 'friendly games'), Adelaide is hosting the Pickleball South Australia Doubles Challenge 2025. This is a 2-day tournament being held Saturday 6th September and Sunday 7th September.
The tournament is being held on 18 indoor courts at the impressive Lights Community and Sports Centre.
The Centre is air-conditioned, offers ample free parking, and has a spacious cafe.
Whether you are relatively new to pickleball or a seasoned player, this tournament provides an opportunity for competitive play, offering a range of events to suit all skill levels and ages.
The tournament program for Saturday will consist of Men's and Women's Doubles.
Sunday will start with the Hybrid event, Split Age Mixed Doubles and, for the first time, a Junior/Senior Doubles, in which the only stipulation is one of the players in the Doubles team needs to be under 18.
The traditional Mixed Doubles will then follow these events on the Sunday.
Players can enter 2 events on the Sunday but event numbers will be restricted to ensure time deadlines can be met.
This is a Pickleball Australia SANCTIONED tournament using the IFP Official Rules of Pickleball and is an Australian Rankings tournament. Players can gain Australian Ranking (AR) points by entering specific events, signified by (AR) in the event title.
Only members of Pickleball SA, Pickleball Australia, or an affiliated club, may enter.
DUPR PLAYER RATINGS
This tournament will use DUPR ratings to determine event eligibility. DUPR ratings are generally higher for the vast majority of players compared with Pickleball Brackets (PAA) ratings. The change to DUPR requires an adjustment upwards in skill levels:
3.49 and below
3.5 - 3.99
4.0 +
The tournament organiser and director reserve the right to change/merge/split skill level or age divisions or to move players into event categories different to the ones in which they entered.
DUPR TRANSITION PHASE
During the current transition phase to DUPR, players can apply to play "down" in a lower skill level, the upper limit of which is no more than 0.25 lower than the player's current DUPR. For example, a player with a rating of 3.74 can apply to play in 3.49 and under. For the application to be supported, one of two conditions must be met:
1. DUPR reliability score of less than 80%
2. No or minimal medals won in the lower skill level events in previous tournaments (or equivalent PAA skill level events).
To apply to play in a lower level, email the Tournament Director via the "Contact Tournament" button on the tourney website.
Be aware that in doubles events the skill level is always based on the rating of the player in the pair with the highest DUPR.
Registrations close on the 10th August at midnight ACST.
In Doubles, both players must register for the entry to be complete. If you do not have a partner, you can look under 'Players Needing Partners' to find a partner - click on the large button next to the logo on the Home page of the tournament website - and send an invite to another player needing a partner in your event. Tournament organisers will also assist with this process as necessary.
