1ST EVER JMU PICKLEBALL TOURNAMENT

JOIN US for a two-day tournament featuring prizes, t shirt sales, and pickleball! This tournament will feature the variety of talent that James Madison University has to offer! Hosted at UPARK, this event will take place on the second weekend in April- the 13th and 14th. Current Club Pickleball members are allowed to participate but only with a partner who isn't also on the team.

TOURNAMENT DATES:

4/13 Saturday - Men's & Women's Doubles

4/14 Sunday - Singles & Mixed Doubles

REGISTRATION:

It is important to note that you may sign up for multiple events. When you sign up for an event you will see different division you can sign up for. These will be indicated by (2.5 - 3.5) and (3.5 - 4.5). These numbers are indicative of your skill level, and it is perfectly okay if you aren't aware of what these numbers mean. Essentially, all you have to know is that 2.5 - 3.5 is Beginner- Intermediate and 3.5 - 4.5 is Intermediate to Advanced. If you fall in the intermediate level, then you should determine which bracket to play in based on whether you think your on the upper range of intermediate or on the lower range.

PRICING:

Registration is $10 for Students and $20 for Faculty. Event fees are an additional $5 per player. There is also a Pickleball Brackets nonrefundable service fee of $5 per event or a maximum of $10 when registering for 2 or more events.

PADDLE REQUIREMENT:

Don't worry if you don't own a paddle. UPARK will be providing players with suitable paddles for the those who don't own them.

RULES & FORMAT:

Brackets will be Round Robin style which then funnel into a playoff bracket for the top 4 teams. All matches will 1 game played to 21 (win by 2) with rally scoring*. Tournament Directors reserve the right to adjust the match format as needed.

*Rally scoring is essentially ping pong scoring where the winner of the point gets to serve the next point. You earn a point, both on and off of your serve. When you have an even number, you serve on the right side; when you have an odd number, you serve on the left side.

PRIZES:

The JMU Pickleball Club is excited to be offering both medals and gear for the winners of each bracket. This includes paddles, balls, and more. Regardless of what place you finish, you still have the chance to earn big prizes. There will be raffles throughout the day that will allow the chance for people to win different types of prizes.

Please note: No refunds will be issued within 14 days of the tournament start date.

Refund Policy:

A full refund (minus proccessing fee) will be issued if the event is canceled due to weather conditions.

INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY

The James Madison Pickleball Tournament is an outdoor event. If weather or any other unforeseen circumstance occurs, JMU Club Pickleball, the tournament organizer, will make every effort to ensure that scheduled matches are played. However, JMU Club Pickleball cannot guarantee the playing of all matches. NO INDOOR VENUE IS AVAILABLE IN THE EVENT OF A WEATHER CONDITION THAT PREVENTS OUTSIDE PLAY.

Court conditions, weather, and player safety will determine decisions to suspend or cancel play. If brackets are in mid-match when weather or unforeseen circumstances occur, the tournament will evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis to determine if the bracket may be finished or if winners will be determined. The tournament's decision will be final.
