FORMAT & GAMEPLAY:
Format:
Due to this being a one-day tourney with a max of 5 courts, all events will be round-robin ONLY format with NO playoffs and medal matches. Round-robin games will be to 11, win by 2 with cap at 13 points. Some events will be split into separate pools for the round-robin events. Round-robin will switch sides at 6 points during the game.
Medals will be awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams as well as BEST DRESSED costumes for 1st and 2nd!!!
Game Start:
First team called up by Tournament Director will pick up the clipboard w/scorecard and ask the opposing team to guess a number of 1 or 2. Opposing teams will be given the option to choose a number of 1 or 2 that is depicted on the back of the scorecard to start the game. Once confirmed, the team that wins may choose:
- Serve first
- Receive first
- Choose starting side
- Defer to opponents
The team that loses may choose one of the remaining options. For example, if the winning team chooses to serve first, the losing team may choose which side to start on.
Timeouts:
Each team is allowed two 1-minute timeouts per game.
Designated Courts:
You will be assigned a designated court for each of your games, and you will play the entire game on that court.
Ceiling & Lights:
Balls hitting the ceiling, lights, or any other permanently affixed items are considered a fault and result in the loss of the rally for the team that hit the ball.
Water bottles:
Depending on what side you're on, water bottles may be brought onto the courts but should be stored against the corner of the back wall or fence line corner and away from the net.
Incorrect Score: Per the USAP Rulebook, if the incorrect score is called during the serve:
A player may stop the rally before the return of serve to correct the score. The point will be replayed, and the score will be re-called with the correct score.
If the score is not corrected before the return of serve is hit, players must wait until the rally is concluded and correct the score before the next serve.
A player stopping the rally after the return of serve has been hit to correct the score is considered a fault and results in the loss of the rally.
A player who stops play at any time to identify or ask for a score correction when the score was correctly called will have committed a fault and shall lose the rally.
*Bracket start times will be released after registration closes on Nov 23rd.
