British Columbia Deaf Pickleball Open 2024

Friday, July 26th, 2024 - Men's Singles, Men's 50+Skinny Singles, Women's Singles. Women's 50+ Skinny Singles, Men's Scramble, Women's Scramble
Saturday, July 27th, 2024 - Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles
Sunday, July 28th, 2024 - Mixed Doubles, Mixed Scramble
Monday, July 29th, 2024 - TBA (Make-up day in case of any cancellations or postponements due to inclement weather)
FORMAT
We will have a variety of formats in various draws split between Qualifying Round Robin leading to single elimination knockout draws. Goal is to maximize play and minimize delay!
Round Robin Events will be games to 11, win by 2, cap 13
Elimination Rounds will be games to 11 or 15, win by 2 (no cap)
Bronze Medal Matches - 1 game to 15, win by 2 (no cap)
Gold Medal Matches - 1 game to 15, win by 2 (no cap)
*When time allows we will play Best 2 out of 3 games to 11, win by 2 for GOLD MEDAL games. This format decision will be decided by the tournament director.
Singles Events will be Round Robin, 1 game to 11, win by 2, Cap 13
No Playoffs in the Singles Events with 6 Players or more, unless player numbers and time allows then playoff rounds. This will be announced prior to the tournament once numbers are confirmed.
Rotation Events fall under the Round Robin Format. After the Round Robin is completed, the Pickle brackets system will match players and form playoff teams based on results for the Single elimination round. Players are matched based on Round Robin Results. Rotation Events will not be recorded for Pickleball Bracket RATINGS.

Open for Deaf/Hard of hearing and Hearing signers (that can communicate fluently in ASL). This is a Signing tournament.
Age Categories: Open to All (16 and older)
Age is based on age as of December 31, 2024
Currently we have Age Category of 50+. If registration numbers are low, the age divisions will be merged. Players over 50 can play in the "Open" division.
IF WE DO NOT HAVE VIABLE NUMBERS IN EITHER OPEN OR 50+ the DIVISIONS WILL BE MERGED AS DECIDED BY TOURNAMENT ADMIN. NO REFUNDS IF GROUPS ARE MERGED.
Registration for General Public will open on Thursday, February 1st at 8:00 am
Registration Closes on July 5th, 2024 at 8:00 am
Registration Fee: $35 plus $15 per event
An online PCO waiver will be used for registration
REGISTERING FOR AN EVENT
The skill level of players is determined by the data in the players Pickleball Brackets profile. The priority for determining a player's skill level is their Canadian Tournament Player Rating (CTPR). If that is lacking then their Pickleball Brackets rating, and if that is lacking their Pickleball Brackets self-rating. When registering for a skill level, eg. 4.0 at least one of the players must be rated at the skill level of the event. Note: a 3.5 and a 4.0 player are eligible to play in 4.0. Two 3.5 players cannot play in 4.0.
**IF your have recently competed in the CDPT or the DPUSA Tournament and finished with a Medal at a specific level - you can email the tournament to request playing at a higher level. All requests will be reviewed by the Tournament Committee or Admin for placement.
This is a Pickleball Canada non-sanctioned tournament. All players MUST be a Pickleball Canada member in good standing to play in this tournament. Please ensure your Pickleball Canada Membership number and your skill level are up to date in your pickleballbrackets.com profile before registering for this tournament. If you are not a Pickleball Canada member, you can become a member at https://pickleballcanada.org/
*From our understanding if you are a USA Pickleball member, you will NOT need to sign up as a Canada Member
Registration is online only at https://pickleballbrackets.com/. Registration is not complete until BOTH partners have registered, agreed to the online waiver, and PAID in full. Online payment via Pickleball Brackets STRIPE account. Please note: Pickleball Brackets Stripe account accepts credit card payments. When the maximum per event is reached based on fully registered/paid teams, others will be added to the waitlist.
Note: If the partner has not completed their registration within ONE WEEK of the first partner registering, the team will be moved to the waitlist if there are fully-paid teams on the waitlist. When the identified partner registers after the one-week grace period, the team will move from the waitlist back to the active list ONLY if there is a slot available. In the case of waitlists, in doubles events - teams will take priority over individuals.
All players must complete their registration by July 5th, 2023, 8:00 am, or they could potentially be placed on the Waitlist. A player may enter as a team or look under "Players Needing Partners" to find a partner.
COMPLETE means, the waiver has been agreed to, the registration is paid in full and your partner needs to be registered, the waiver agreed to and paid in full as well.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to place payers in the Skill Group based on their current UTPR/USAPA/PCO rating skill groups based on registration. The Tournament Committee has the right to make changes to the tournament, combine divisions, or change and alter the format depending on the number of registrations received.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to review player ratings (including results from CDPT DPUSA pickle ball tournament and DUPR) to ensure players are in the correct brackets.
HELPFUL INFORMATION
Players are encouraged to bring:
-their own portable chairs
-hat or umbrella for personal shade
-we are planning to have food options on-site.
-remember that dehydration can happen quickly when playing in the sun
-water will be available for purchase or the nearest free water refill station is located inside the restrooms on-site
